Dream

Here is another one.

I was used to setting up lighting for picturesque renderings, but for animations, as soon as the camera starts moving, I see the other side completely dark. Adjusting the lighting is quite a hustle. On top of it, I waited to render this 6420 frames (3min 40sec) till last minutes, so I had to hijack whole 30 computers in a lab at Citrus Collage.

One spring day, a koinobori is flapping peacefully until he sees a butterfly. He becomes unhappy with his strings that tie himself to a pole. He tries to escape. No sooner he detaches himself from the pole than he finds out he cannot fly. He falls into a pond. He becomes really sad. Then he finds fishes swimming in the pond. He realized that he is a carp also. He starts swimming with them ...Next thing he knows, he is back at the top of the pole. Everything was a dream. He is satisfied his little journey and goes back to his daily life.

Music is from Hayao Miyazaki's Castle in the Sky.

Wind

This is an Animation Clip I made for Maya class.

It was the first time I used the software and I had no idea what I was doing back then. Texture Map on butterfly wings turned out pretty nice. I researched how many times a butterfly flips its wings per second to make the animation believable.

A butterfly is looking for some nectar, but many obstacles keep her from getting any flowers. Unfriendly crowds, spider nests ...after she is blown off in the strong wind, she finally hovers on a mysterious blue daisy. Her wings change into the color of the flower. A butterfly flies away into the blue sky.

Music is from my favorite movie, Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away.

PCC and Architecture

ガレージに住みせっせとモデルを作っていた頃。寒いこと寒いこと。



Pasadena City College has intense two year architecture program, which totally prepared me to transfer to SCI-Arc. Since I started art /architecture /design from scratch, I don't have good body of work that I'm too proud of from PCC ...but I guess at least my craftsmanship was ridiculously insane from the beginning. Picture is a case study of Kappe Residence. I teamed up with Sky.

The problem was I loved making models, being precise, producing drawings, learning softwares, and pretty much anything that architecture students get to do... so without even thinking about if architecture was for me or what, unfortunately I was dragged into this field. It was an accident that I started architecture.
